Wels/British voluntaries

The Welsh Voluntary Championships 2015 was held on 1st November. This competition identifies the top 4 gymnasts in Wales for each level and puts forward a team for the British Age Group championships held later on in the month.

In the Level 3 competition we had 3 gymnasts compete; Olivia Gauregui, Emma Chandler and Maddison Lin. With the exception of an unfortunate fall for Madi on bars the girls had a good competition and each came away with a gold medal as the only club to enter a team into this level. Olivia and Emma placed 3rd and 4th overall and earned their places on the Welsh team for finals.

In level 4 Mali Morgan was crowned Welsh champion with Poppy Stickler coming a close 2nd- both girls also making the Welsh team. Mali was also beam and vault champion with Poppy Welsh bar champion- great result for the girls after a lot of hard work.

This competition also had a level 5 competition aimed at those girls born in 2007 who hope to be competing in Compulsory 4 in 2016. Our very own Maisie Dickman placed 3rd overall with Nia Llewelyn placing 4th. Maisie was also Welsh beam champion and Nia bar champion- great job for these girls in their first Welsh competition.

British Age Group Championships

British finals this year were held in Bracknell on 14/15th November. The scores from this competition are added to the British compulsory scores at the beginning of the year to give an overall score and placing for that level. In level 3, team Wales (Olivia and Emma along with teammates Ellie-Mae Wainwright and Seren Rowlands-Higgins) placed a respectable 4th place with Olivia placing 11th in Britain combined for her age- amazing achievement.

The level 4 team were exceptional and managed a team silver medal this time! Our own Mali Morgan placed 3rd overall and Poppy Stickler 5th out of 54 girls from across Britain. Team mates Amy Oliver (VGA) and Jea Maracha (Phoenix) came a very close 6th and 7th which was an amazing achievement for all of the girls, clubs, coaches and of course Wales! Combined Mali placed 4th and Poppy 7th which suggested a place in British Home Nations Development squad for each of them.
